SSCT SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION
Message from the Scholarship Committee:
The scholarship committee announces two new contributions to our scholarship fund. The first is from Burgess Pigment Company in the amount of $1,000 in honor of Fred Marschall and will be awarded to a science major. Fred has dedicated over 65 years to the coatings industry and is recognized for his immense knowledge about raw materials and polymers, formulating techniques in architectural, industrial, and marine coatings, his knowledge and contribution in performance testing of paints, along with his problem-solving skills across a broad range of many coating varieties. The second contribution is from Penn Color in the amount of $5,000 annually. Penn Color’s generous gift will help further the SSCT’s goal of fostering education among our members and their families. If you have a child in college, please encourage them to apply for one of the SSCT’s scholarships. This is a great membership benefit!
To students whose mother or father is an SSCT Member:
The SSCT is offering two undergraduate scholarships this membership year. A $2,500 scholarship is available for students majoring in science, and one for $2,500 to a student in any major (or who has not decided upon a major). A science major is determined as any field which is based on using the scientific method.
The students must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university and have completed at least one semester by the application deadline of May 10th, 2026. The scholarship is not limited to freshman, however, it is the intent of the SSCT Board of Directors to continue to fund the scholarship to students as they progress through the four years of most undergraduate curricula.
As indicated on the application form, you must submit a completed application, a copy of all college or university transcripts (minimum 3.0 GPA), and a written statement with background and career goal information. In addition to two recommendation letters, one from your advisor and another from a faculty member.
For your information, colleges and universities have financial aid or financial assistance offices whose web sites list other scholarships available. As deadlines come and go, scholarships are added and removed from the listings, so students are encouraged to check the websites regularly. We hope higher education is a positive learning experience for you and we look forward to your success.
